Markdown

Published 18 December 04 by Justin French

With the recent 1.0.1 release, things are looking really good, and Gruber’s ideas on possible features for 1.1 (scroll to the bottom of the article) sound nice. I’ll be making a donation in the hope that 1.1 comes sooner, rather than later.

It’s worth noting that Markdown’s license has been changed to a less restrictive BSD style license, which makes things a little less complicated.

I’m really undecided which is “better” here. Markdown seems to do less, which I’m a big fan of, and some of Textile’s quirks are really starting to get on my nerves.

Perhaps something in between the two (Textdown? Markile?) would be a nice little pipe dream, but I’m going to try out the PHP port of Markdown as soon as 1.0.1 is released, and will see how things go – maybe it should be an option in TextThing!
