Help Wanted

I’ve managed to “fake” hierarchical categories & directories quite well so far with mod_rewrite and some nifty PHP, and things work fine, but I think what I really need (and should solve pre-beta) is a real nested hierarchical database structure and some decent functions to access it. It’s one of those things that I may regret later if I don’t get it right from day zero.

So far, it would seem that the best place to start is with this article on Sitepoint.com, but I’ve got too much else going on to sit down and really comprehend it all. If you have any experience with Modified Preorder Tree Traversal or any other hierarchical database structure and can extend it well beyond these examples, I’d love to hear from you.

Textpattern also uses a similar system, so there must be a bunch of you out there who have a little more background with it than I do.

What can I offer in return? Well, for starters, you’ll be helping me bring this lovely piece of opensource software into the public a little sooner, but if that isn’t enough inspiration, you’ll also be showing me how cleaver you are, and I love giving cleaver people some paid work.

If I still haven’t sweetened the deal enough, I’ll make sure you’re one of the first beta testers, and will personally help you design and build your first TextThing site in exchange for your time.

If you know anyone who might be able to help, please forward this article to them. If you’re the man for the job (or woman, of course) please leave a comment here or email me!
