Font Book

Published 20 September 04 by Justin French

Is it just me, or is this thing horribly slow to open and horribly slow to use? I’ve never seen the little spinning beach-ball so many times in my life.

Sure, I have “a few” extra fonts installed (535 to be exact), but so would many other Mac users (we’re primarily designer types after all).

My guess is that Font Book was never intended for such a high number of fonts, and I probably need to install a 3rd party application like Suitcase. It’s not a money thing (it’s about US$100), but I really like the way Apple is solving our day-to-day problems with built-in software (Mail, Safari, iCal, Address Book, etc).

At version 1.02, Font Book is obviously still in it’s infancy, but I really expected better from Apple. Has anyone got some performance tips, or upgrades news in Tiger?

Fingers crossed!
