Giving Something Back

I’m going to steer clear of the details for the moment, but I can tell you it’s based around what I do best (PHP-based CMSs & frameworks) and fills what I believe is a gaping void in the current offerings.

It’s the culmination of basically everything I know how to do well, condensed down into something useful, focused and extensible. It helps out where it can, but more importantly, it doesn’t get in the way of the things you want to do.

It’s perfect for someone like me – I know PHP, I’m comfortable with FTP & file management and I want the power to innovate a little, rather than just accept what’s available.

It won’t appeal to everyone. It’s not MovableType, it’s not Textpattern, it’s not WordPress, and honestly, it’s not trying to be. Sometimes less is more, and that’s totally the philosophy here.

And the name? I haven’t decided yet, but I’m 100% certain of the tag line — The CMS That Does Less™. Since it does less, I don’t have to write anywhere near as much code, so if everything goes well, you can expect a release this year – maybe even this month!

Stay tuned for announcement of a beta program, and lots of sneak previews along the way.

Update Nov 20: It has a name (TextThing), and a new category has been created especially, so you can easily see all related posts.
